2023 has been remarkable for our doc.hci program, as the five PhD students successfully defended their proposals, marking significant milestones in their PhD journeys.
Nathalia and Jan-Hendrik, defended their proposals in June 2023. Nathalia research project delves into “designing everyday playfulness to create agonistic spaces”. This project aims to design interventions, workshops, and installations that promote constructive conflicts through design. Jan-Hendrik’s work focuses on exploring “opportunity times and spaces to leverage technology for physical activity promotion.” With this innovative approach, Jan-Henrik set the stage for groundbreaking contributions to the field of AR/VR.
As the summer came to an end, Lisa Theresia Hofer, Eleni, and Omleila joined the successful proposal defenders. Lisa’s proposal, which is built upon the study of “opportunity spaces for informal education,” garnered attention for the importance of informal learning for unprivileged public groups in the technological era to enhance children’s creativity and well-being. Eleni’s project proposes “meaningful interaction with digital data motion” intended to assist people while on-the-move by incorporating the field of AR. Lastly, the project called “Troubling doctors’ Future Office” was defended by Omleila. The aim of this project is to challenge institutionalized genderism and bias by incorporating feminist values into the design process and reimagining the concept of the bodiless space of telemedicine.
